Tips to Find the Best Frames for Your Face

Our Portland & Beaverton eye optometrist and the optical team is here to help you find the best pair of frames that match the color of your eyes, the shape of your face, the size of your budget, the life you lead, and even your overall sense of style. Whether you're sporty, flirty, modern, or chic, we are confident you will find a pair (or two!) that you love at our eye care clinic.

Consider the following tips when choosing frames, based on the shape of your:

Oval Face (high cheekbones, slightly narrow chin compared to forehead)

You're lucky--almost any frame shape looks good on your balanced face.

• Go for: rectangular or round frames with either dark or light colors

• Avoid: oversized frames that throw off and compete with your face's natural balance

Round Face (circular; face width and length are about equal)

Look for a pair that will off-set your full cheeks.

• Go for: square or rectangular glasses

• Avoid: circular or small frames

Square Face (wide, well-defined jaw and angular cheekbones)

Complement the strong lines of your face.

• Go for: circular, dark, and/or thick frames

• Avoid: square or rectangular frames that are thin and/or light-colored

Heart-Shaped Face (a wide forehead and narrow chin)

Maintain the balance between your upper and lower facial width.

• Go for: oval or round glasses, light and/or thin frames

• Avoid: top heavy frames and/or overly ornate styles

Of course, in addition to a great pair of eyeglasses, our Portland and Beaverton Optometry clinic can also hook you up with a great pair of prescription sunglasses or even contact lenses if you choose to have a more subtle vision-correction option. We also offer anti-reflective lenses which are super helpful for people who spend a lot of time outdoors or in front of a computer screen.
